TIL that collage stole from my wealth, my life and my future

I am in an interesting position, because in my country college education is free (payed by taxpayes, so not really free - but to no imediate debt to you), if you do it right after high school. So I went to enginering college, which took me almost 5 years to complete.
To my unaware slowlane brain, this was a good investment, because I get an increase in my base salary, and I was going to earn more per year, and have better job opportunities, more safety and security.

I didn't know any...

Buying a Blog

Please tell me, if its a good idea!

I think of buying a blog.
Creating a blog is quite laborious. Not only from hours to invest, but from generating it from zero. I m not good with that.
So I think of buying a blog, which has some decent cashfow and information about a theme I know.
Than optimizing with information and let it run.

Good or not?

Is it necessary to concentrate to Europe, or better to manage a blog in English...

Choosing between 2 business ideas

Would love to hear some feedback on picking between 2 business ideas. They are in an unrelated field.

1 is the safe play: a brick and mortar optometry clinic which would specialise in children's vision (myopia is a huge risk factor for kids these days). I would have to work in the business a lot more as I would be the optometrist (at least for the first 1-2 years), with higher wage and product costs.

2 is a ping pong on demand type of place just like pingpods.com (I am in Australia and we...

Best Video Editing Software for YouTube in 2019?

What software do you use for video editing? Talking head videos in particular.

I use Camtasia. It's designed for screen recording, but works for talking head.

Problem is...it's buggy and crashes a lot. Mismatches my voice with videos too.

Not worth the $300 price tag.

So I'm wondering what do you use? Any recommendations for 2019?

I searched Google, but it seems every blog and influencer has an agenda so it makes them hard to trust.

Would rather hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

Building a subscription box business

Hi All,

I had an idea for a subscription box business, so I thought I'd document my progress and process. The idea isn't groundbreaking, but if done really well it could work and help a lot of people.

At a very high level, my plan is this
  1. Market Research
  2. Validate and test my ideas
  3. Source suppliers
  4. Develop branding, design and packaging
  5. Build a prototype box
  6. Build a shop (using Subbly or Shopify)
  7. Build a limited run of boxes
  8. Sell those first boxes...

I almost gave up (AGAIN)

It's crazy how you hit the space of void and fear at the same time. Here I was working on my umptenth business and started to doubt myself which has actually been a rare occurrence in my entrepreneurial journey. In my past ventures it never even crossed my mind that they wouldn't work so I just powered through like it was nothing. Luckily for me, I have always had the mentality and just started flipping stuff if I ended up against a wall pre-launch. I would put hours upon hours with a laser...

Web 3.0 (Ethereum) is happening, and most people have no idea what it even is.

Blockchain technology has been around since 2009. When most people think about blockchains, they think about bitcoin, a slow, expensive antiquated technology that is hard to scale, and is not innovating. Every now and again you will hear about bitcoin reaching new all time highs, yet nothing has really changed with the technology in years.

Then there are alt coins. Coins things like litecoin or dogecoin that are basically carbon copies of bitcoin, and coins like monero that are similar to...

For My Posterity

As a brief history. I’ve spent the last 12 years of my life as a slow laner, working the 9-to-5 grind for various companies. Granted, I used this time to get a college degree and managed to do so without accumulating any debt. Last year I decided to strike out on my own (kinda sorta) and started an SEO agency, I have the technical know-how and got a business partner who specializes in marketing and sales and after just 6 months we’ve acquired 5 jobs, 4 of which are paying us a monthly...

Is CENTS Destructive to Action?

Over the years I've read thousands of introductions here.

A common thread I've seeing follows the following format:

A) I have 3 ideas, X,Y, and Z.
B) None of them meet CENTS.
C) X is missing entry, Y is missing scale, and Z is missing a mix of both.
D) I don't know what to do.

The end result is the person does NOTHING.

The problem with this mentality is that it causes you not to engage the market.

And market engagement (CENTS OR NOT!) is what causes you to personally grow, gain...

I just talked to my CPA. He told me that although the filing date for US Federal taxes has been rolled back, the estimated tax quarterlies and the taxes for 2020 are still due on April 15th. That's 2 weeks from now. Don't you have to have a completed return in order to find out what you owe and how much your quarterlies should be? Duct tape and bailing wire: business software

Many years ago, I worked with a company that made and sold machine tools (lathe and mill machines). This was a smallish company, perhaps 20 or so employees. My project there was to take a bunch of software packages they were using and attempt to make them work together. In the end, we wound up customizing something from a local vendor and writing some of our own code. The initial cost was somewhat higher, but it did everything they wanted, the way they wanted it done.

Comfort VS Frugality ?

Hi !

I'm finally moving to Bali next week if everything goes well, and I looking at the different places I can have

Basically, I can either rent a small villa for ~$950/month or rent a single room in a villa (shared with other people) for $200/month

I'm curious about what you'd choose, if you earned ~$6000/month, and tried to go from slowlane freelance to fastlane

Would you get the cheap room and reinvest everything in your projects ? Or get the comfort but being able to reinvest less ?

What Are the Dumbest Financial Decisions You Have Ever Made?

I will start.

1. I sank 80% of my net worth into stocks in May 2019, and sold when they bottomed in March 2020, 2 or 3 days before the Fed rolled out QE. Then I bought options with the remaining money I had left, and lost everything.

Lately I was talking with a friend that there is no really first person shooter which has high realism (Area 3) and is still fast paced and fun to play (Battelfield)
I know that these titles came from AAA studios nevertheless are there are quite some good Indigames out there.

#2064 Becoming a technical founder (without a software background)

Joining me is an investment banker who decided he wanted to start a software company. But instead of going online and finding a technical co-founder to do all the work, he spent two years learning how to code. Ryan Coon is the co-founder of Avail, which simplifies property management for independent landlords. In this interview we’re going to hear the entire story of how he built it up to how he sold it to Realtor.com.

Earn Out Financing

Hey everyone, JP Here.

My fiscal situation has improved drastically. I have 0 Credit card debt now and with a comfortable cushion saved up in the bank and I'm ready to use that leverage in my favor. So I started digging around SBA Loans, HELOC funds, then I came across something called Earn Out Financing.

So knowing this community is a massive resource for me so I came back on here to look for a thread that had to do with anything with Earn Out Financing. I was not able to find anything on...

Cold emaling(ish) for a combined business venture

Hey forum,

so I was in the middle of writing an email which could have potentially very positive consequences for my SaaS business, or none at all.
Long story short I got the contacts (no phone) of the director of a company with which I really would like to do business.
If we strike a deal, both our clients and companies will benefit greatly.
The deal itself would be a integration between our systems.
To my knowledge, they dont have that option (the integration option) at the moment, so...

I'm working on a mobile app, counting the scores of various categories of apps, and displaying them on the interface according to categories and popularity. Only the top five apps in each category are displayed on the interface, with a brief introduction attached, so that users can intuitively understand the main functions and rankings of various categories of apps, and the information is clear at a glance, while more other apps are included in "more" (if users are interested in a certain...

Hello from Sydney, Australia

G'day from Australia. Loved reading TMF and consider it one of the best books I've ever read, and I read a lot. The last 2 parts of the book (7 & 8) were particularly captivating for me. A clear well-defined path for what I've been wanting to achieve for some time. I'm onto it. Clearly a case of when the student is ready the teacher will appear.

I live a very comfortable and "successful" life in the slowlane. Over educated with a PhD in education and work as a professor in a large...

From a broke Uber Driver $9k behind on rent to $30k Per Month...QUESTIONS?

I'm happy to be able to make this post and hopefully share some inspiration and motivation to you guys.

First off, I found MJ Demarco while driving for Uber. I'd work 12+ hours a day so listening to music became annoying after a while so Audible became my best friend. I read Millionaire Fastlane and Unscripted audiobooks about 3 times each along with a ton of other books that really helped me push through the shitty time I'm about to briefly cover in a second. Am I looking for a Unicorn? (If not, where to find?)

I'd like to ask the collective hive mind here for some feedback on my potential approach to finding a marketing person for my biz.

A quick back-story on my current situation:

I run a small, local tutoring business. It's well-managed, makes 6 figures in profit, and doesn't take much of my attention. At the same time, the business has not grown in any meaningful way since covid. I have, until this point, relied on a good SEO and a strong market for business growth, but I'm seeing that if I...

Searching for ideas to create a 1000$ of passive income per month side hustle

Hi everyone!

My goal on this forum is not to become millionaire. Sure, if this was possible, it would be great. In fact, I am searching for different ideas to create a 1000$/month side hustle. Why 1000$/month? Simply because it's my average monthly expenses. If I could create 1000$ of passive income per month, I would be able to become financially independent.

Do you have ideas on the side hustle I could build to provide me with 1000$ of passive income per month?

You see, I got fired from my last job, not because I wasn’t a hard worker or because I wasn’t inefficient.
