#2170 A conversation with Deron Triff of WaitWhat and TED

I want to understand about the business of content creation so invited Deron Triff. Deron  is co-producer of the Masters of Scale podcast. And prior to that, he was on the executive team at TED. He is THE person to talk on this subject. Today Deron is co-founder WaitWhat, a New York based media invention company that creates and owns premium content. I’ll ask him about that too.

So with The Great Resignation still unfolding, do you think this will be good or bad for entrepreneurs?

It might be great for me since I sell entrepreneurial related content, but in general for entrepreneurs it might be a bad thing.

2) Introduces more competition in marketplaces. Whereas an entrepreneur might have had 8 competitors, now she may have 25.
3) Introduces tighter labor market shortages, higher wage/salary costs...

Making an app

Hallo!
I have an idea for an app regarding cryptos and charts.
Basically I want an app, which takes API i formation from coinmarketcap and can show them in a special way.
But I have no glue how to do it.
Where should I start?
There are pages, where one can build an app. Are they senseless?

I can't do this anymore

I have already introduced myself, but this is my second coming. My name is Hans Chaney. I have a wife and son. On Friday 12/10/21, we lost everything but our house and lives. I am using the last battery power of my phone as I type this. We live in Dawson Springs, KY. We'll we used to before a tornado came at 10:45pm and erased the town.
While we and our home survived, we lost our jobs, our security, water, heat and electricity.

Would you buy a book like this?

As many know, I've been wanting to write a fiction novel for some time. My first foray into fiction writing was The Great Rat Race Escape which portrayed a struggling family seeking to escape the rat race through business. That book, however, is still classified as "non-fiction" despite the embedded novel.

The question is, would you buy a book written from me that was entirely fiction and NOT business related?

Some of the genres I'm thinking about tackling...

Can you relate?

After joining this forum, a couple of days ago I finally feel at home. It is not a joke. Subjects touched on here just lift so much weight off my shoulders! I finally am in the proper moment to introduce myself -

Lately, I had a time of painful major growth. In a short period of time, I matured a lot, yet many beautiful believes I had had to be shattered by reality. When I go out on the streets and I see hate in people's eyes - just because I am well-groomed or carry myself with dignity and...

Come Watch Me Build a Lifestyle Business That Makes 2k+ a Week

6 years ago I left the rat race to start a salon supply business (my backstory is here) and I’ve documented part of my journey to FU money in this thread.

Unfortunately the salon supply business is currently going through a very lean period due to covid. Lockdowns have meant that many of our customers cannot operate and therefore are not buying our products and our suppliers are unable to provide a lot of what we need.

While making less money sucks, the silver lining is that...

Forum Upgrade News and Update

I'm happy to announce that Phase 2 of the forum upgrade is now complete.

Phase 1 was simply upgrading the software and getting the forum fully operational with a workable UI.
Phase 2 centered more on branding, style and the UI with a big focus on MOBILE optimization.

MOBILE FRIENDLY (Natively, Not Tapatalk)

As a result, the forum is far more user friendly for our mobile users, as well as faster. As I mentioned in another thread, I've surfed the forum on my iPhone...

What is Web 3.0? Here’s a massively over simplified, 30-second primer

Web 1.0

  • The first iteration of the world wide web was mostly static content… Websites were like online versions of magazines, newspapers, or encyclopedias.
  • Information flowed one way. You could go to a website and read, listen to, or watch content, but not interact with it more than that.
  • Open source. Nobody owned the ‘www platform’. Anyone could buy a domain and host content on it. Would that content reach anyone outside that tiny sandbox? … Good luck.
  • Google seized...

I started selling few days ago and run Facebook ads - now they have 100k reach.

One of my contacts, JangaFX, turned me onto this. I'm a 10 year FF/Paramedic and after years of frustration with the lack of offerings, decided to develop my own solution to our training problems. I've also found that traditional business rules don't seem to apply anymore, what I have read so far resonates with the lessons I've discovered the hard way. I look forward to finishing the TFM.

PSA: Don't pursue sports betting as a means of generating income

This was a reply that I sent to a private PM. I think it's worth repeating here:

On the average bet, you're expected to lose 5% of the money you bet. That's how the book makes money. That means that you have to have an advantage over that margin in order to squeeze out a positive EV profit.

So you have to hit 52.5% of your bets at even odds just to make money. Sounds easy. It's not.

British sportsbooks have become sophisticated to the point that if you make over $20k, they start...

Is this warehouse F*cking me? It smells like complete bullshit...

The warehouse I am working with made a big mistake with customs and a bunch of orders got sent back at once. It led to like $5k+ in charges. It was their fault so they said they'd cover it. So, I considered the whole situation reconciled.

Sometimes a BOGO is better than a discount

Sometimes when we decide to do a sale, we think of a sale like 25% off everything. Sometimes we do a Buy one get one free.
You might think that a BOGO would make you less money than a 25% off. But until you run some quick numbers your never know.

For example, imagine you have something that costs you $20 and $5 to ship, and you sell it for $100.

If you did a 25% off coupon, the customer would pay you $75. You would make $50 on the sale. ($75 - $25 = $50)
But what if you did a buy one...
