The Unfair Advantage - Book Summary, Key Takeaways - mindset-changing book

Hey guys,

9781788163316.jpg

It's my first post after lurking for a while so I thought I'd give some info on a book I recently read and found pretty eye-opening (but maybe not to experienced Fastlaners)
It's called The Unfair Advantage by Ash Ali and Hasan Kubba.
Anyone who thinks 'hard work' is all it takes to make it or thinks luck is inconsequential (OR worse, thinks they're unlucky) should read this book.
Real eye-opener on what it takes to be successful...

Thoughts on Specialized Skill to learn.

Instead of spending my free time playing video games and endlessly scrolling though twitter, I've learned that my time would be better spent learning a specialized skill. I've had an interest in copywriting for a while now, but I'm looking for input from the community on other specialized skills.

At what point did you decide to commit to a single idea?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the unscripted life and trying to overcome my introversion by plugging into this forum and wanted to know what made you decide to execute a single idea. I've been brainstorming for a few weeks and listening for opportunities to create value for others and I'm throwing them on my whiteboard and I am finding myself hopping from one to trying to find out which one I can pursue through the CENTS framework.

What made you decide one single idea while ignoring all the...

Journey to top 20% as a solopreneur

Jumping from a Slowlane to Fastlane mentality has been hard for me. Why? Because I haven't had an FTE and probably never will.

I live a very comfortable life. I live rent free with my parents and I spend about $200/MTh contributing to utilities, food, and supplies. Not bad considering I live 90 minutes from the beach in California. Even with my low income of $2000 a month, I still manage to save $900. I'm not hurting.

I've thought about manufacturing an FTE by doing vanlife or living in a...

What Are the Dumbest Financial Decisions You Have Ever Made?

I will start.

1. I sank 80% of my net worth into stocks in May 2019, and sold when they bottomed in March 2020, 2 or 3 days before the Fed rolled out QE. Then I bought options with the remaining money I had left, and lost everything.
Lesson: read about the financial products you are buying, about the psychology of investing, and learn how the economy works, the relationship between central banks, governments, stock markets, and the value of currencies. Don't get financial advice from...

Is it actually true as MJ claims that starting a business doesn't require much capital?

I don't get how MJ can say that you don't need much money to start a business when there are literally businesses that absolutely require capital to even get started. I am looking into owning my own place. I am sick of sharing space with others. Is it best if I save up to pay off a house completely or rent an apartment? I have heard two sides as renting an apartment, when something goes wrong in the place the apartment building will take car of it but you still are offering a bit of control whereas if you completely pay off the house it is yours and yours alone but so are all the problesm that go along with it.

Too many people get hung up waiting for the right idea to start a business I reckon. But especially if you're just starting out in business/Fastlane, having a great idea isn't nearly as important as executing right. Are Embassies and Consulates Good Middlemen For Exporting?

First, a little bit about the situation. I partnered up with a producer of high phenolic olive oil and long story short we found that this kind of product is rare to produce and in many countries around the world (Scandinavians, Eastern Europe and others) it cannot be produced at all, or at least not in good quality. Basically, our biggest trump cards are location and expertise.

We got a certification for the phenolic content because the rules and regulations say that the olive oil has to...

LLC or S Corp?

Hi all. I currently am a real estate agent with a photography side business and a web design business. My plan was to merge all 3 under one umbrella. Obviously I'm looking for tax benefits, liability protection etc, but was wondering what's the best to get into?

In books I've read, namely Rich Dad, it says to pay yourself first then your taxes (if I remember correctly it allows you to pay a lesser tax rate?) Not sure if true or if I got it mixed up.

Hi All,

Recently I have been doing a lot of reading around historic market crashes, current state of affairs across a myriad of industries and economics in general.

I am interested in discussing with my fellow Fastlaners their views on the state of the economy both nationally and globally and their future predictions of what they see unfolding. I am writing from the perspective of someone based from the UK.

My research to date has highlighted the following:
  1. It is clear...

My 28 year old cousin asked for a life decision

My cousin recently asked me for help. A life decision or what should I do question.

He is 28 years old. Lives with his parents still. He is in debt. Works part time for a big box retailer. He is massively obese. His expenses are $500 a month.

His boss gave him the opportunity to go full time. Right now he does side jobs. Mowing and pressure washing.

This is his debt:
  1. $4,500 Credit Card
  2. $2,250 Car Loan
  3. $2,500 Dentist

What to do with a lot of land on the island in Croatia?

First of all, I'm from Croatia, and I'm 29 years old. I'm an entrepreneur, and when my dad died in 2018, I went from being dad's son to a man that needs to handle a couple of businesses.

My family owns a big piece of land on an island named Žut, which is near National Park Kornati and close to the place where I'm from, Murter. ( see the attachment)

Generational wealth is the rule? How to break the barrier.

From what I have seen generational wealth is about an 80% predictor of future economic standing. Children of executives became upper class. Children of managers, engineers, etc. become middle and upper middle class. Children of blue collar workers become lower to middle class. I believe that it is not the cost of education which is the barrier but the "know-how". This is profound in that most anyone, regardless of economic background, can acquire this know-how and break the generational...
