Someone gave me this advice a few years ago and it's got me out of a bind quite a few times since. On one occasion I was 2 days away from our mortgage payment and looking at an empty warchest. This advice helped.
The advice?
Start sending hand crafted emails to all the people you've ever done work with. Make it friendly, short, and non-needy.
Example:
Hi Bob,
Hope you and your family are well.
Just thought I'd let...
