Somebody I know just posted a tale about her old bathroom woes - bathtub trip lever was not functioning properly, and the shower diverter was leaking when the shower is on. Plumbers she talked to offered only expensive solutions - total bathroom renovation, or, at least, replacement of all the old plumbing (as old and unserviceable). It took her several months to find a handyman who successfully resolved the problem with a new gasket and some steel studs.
