Anyone ship from Canada to the US before?

I have my first product ready for export from Canada to the US but im stumped on shipping. Generic carriers like UPS and FedEx cost a fortune, there have got to be better options. My current options are:

1. Use a generic carrier like UPS, FedEx, or DHL. They're quoting me roughly $1000 CAD to have it shipped to where i need to.
2. Figure out how i can get my product over the border myself using a customs broker and have it delivered to a 3PL warehouse from where UPS will pick it...
